open source tel: URI support
DanC: clue 1: dtmfdial
DanC: clue 2: telagent; telnum.py in particular
DanC: clue 3: put 'python /home/connolly/devcvs/2001/telagent/telnum.py %s' in the gnome file types and programs dialog, as a new internet service. give tel: as the protocol
DanC: should note this in notes on tel URI scheme
DanC: "It's a little clunky to switch from headset to handset, dial, switch back to headset, but it works!" says norm
DanC: you can grab telnum.py version 1.3
DanC: put it all together, and if you hold your phone up to the speaker and click to follow a tel: link, presto!
DanC: be advised: it's addictive. But until lots and lots of people are doing the same thing, you can count on the occasional failure, at which point you'll have to re-train yourself to dial phone numbers the conventional way.
DanC: folks are welcome to use my office phone to test.
DanC: ah... chump is a bit pickier about tel: URIs than http: URIs

bitsko: A short piece and HowTo on making your microcontent part of the web instead of locked in a RSS/Atom feed.
DanC: hope to read this, compare with DeltaView, PaperTrail, and the like
bitsko: The distinction I see from DeltaView is that DeltaView expects the data to be preserved, somewhere, where syndication feeds are not, in and of themselves, preserved anywhere. The intent of this piece is to point that out and suggest the content be put in a permanent place, typically "alongside" the web page that is referenced in the feed.

tomcat overuses cookies
DanC: how to fix this? where do tomcat bug reports live?
DanC: I first saw this in that semweb challenge-winning news app... SECO?
DanC: and now in libby's search gizmo
DanC: it's amazing what you see if you set your browser up to require informed consent for cookies, the way a good browser should
Dorward: You can disable sessions (and therefore the default cookies) in Tomcat, but is not nice, details on the mailing list
DanC: hmm... in response to the TAG issue on mime types, we came up with a principle about user agents acting with the informed consent of users they represent; this clearly applies to cookies too.
libby: thanks Dorward. I've fixed mine using <%@ page session="false" %>, which seems to have worked. But you have to do it on every page
Dorward: Hence 'not nice' <G>

Toward more backlinks in rdfig land
DanC: e.g. each wiki topic should offer backlinks (using google?) to mentions in the rdfig weblog and IRC logs
DanC: of course each weblog/chump entry should point to the IRC log
DanC: recent logger enhancement in this direction is nice; thanks dajobe!
danbri: Libby has a search gadget (uses the RSS 1.0 chump feed) too.
danbri: eg substring query on mozilla rdf URIs.
dajobe: we were pondering chump to/from logger connections but at least as the author of logger, I don't want it to carry a lot of state or have to make network calls to the chump bot, for instance.
libby: my irc bot whwhwhwh can also do searches to see if something has been chumped - it's on #foaf at the moment though
